Southwestern Medical Foundation has played a critical role in funding the creation, development and continued growth of a world-class medical center in Dallas for over sixty years. Through our experiences, we understand better than anyone that building great institutions takes time, talent, and a sustained commitment of significant financial resources.

Thanks to the generosity of many far-sighted individuals, corporations, foundations and philanthropic organizations, Southwestern Medical Foundation has been able to raise the funds to create over 500 endowments and restricted funds benefiting UT Southwestern and its affiliated institutions. The endowments, established for both restricted and unrestricted purposes, provide a sustained stream of income that is used to support the continued growth and development of our medical center.

By making an endowment gift today, you will be able to see the benefits of that gift during your lifetime. Your gift can become a permanent endowment fund, with the annual income from the gift used to support any medical program you choose. Or you can let the Foundation put the money to use in the area where the need is most critical. Unrestricted endowments, because of their flexibility, often play a particularly critical role in helping the Foundation support new areas of medical research, education, or innovations in patient care that were unknown only a few years ago.

Endowments are the cornerstone of stability for UT Southwestern. Both state and federal funds may fluctuate and are often unpredictable. Endowment funds are invested, and the distributable income from those investments is spent for the activities specified by the donor. Endowed chairs, professorships, research funds, fellowships and scholarships, and research and clinical centers provide essential income in perpetuity to support the research, teaching and patient care missions of UT Southwestern. Endowments not only provide unique opportunities for programs to flourish, but also give UT Southwestern critical leverage when competing for national grants and help substantially in recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty.

Endowment gifts also provide an opportunity for donors to honor their family or company or organization, to become a lasting part of the Foundation’s and medical center’s life and to influence generations to come. The following illustrates the various opportunities to create named endowments at the Foundation to benefit UT Southwestern. (Note: Minimum gift levels for the establishment of endowments benefiting UT Southwestern are set by The University of Texas System Board of Regents. The Foundation observes these same gift levels for consistency.)

Special Centers and Laboratories build state-of-the-art medical and research facilities. To create an endowed center at UT Southwestern requires a gift or gifts totaling the following amounts:
