More than 65 years ago, a small but dedicated group of private citizens and philanthropists, including Dr. E. H. Cary and Karl Hoblitzelle, established Southwestern Medical Foundation in Dallas, Texas. Their vision was to improve medical education, medical research and patient care in the North Texas region. To this end, the Foundation founded Southwestern Medical College and operated the college until it was given to The University of Texas System and renamed The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.

Since that time, Southwestern Medical Foundation has continued to raise and manage private philanthropic dollars for the medical center, fostering its growth from a small medical school into one of the world’s leading medical research centers. At the present time, the Foundation manages over 500 endowed and restricted funds for the benefit of UT Southwestern and its
affiliated medical institutions. As UT Southwestern’s philanthropic partner, the Foundation carries on the tradition of its founders by providing funding for innovative medical research, education and patient care to help ensure that our citizens have access to the very best health care available.
